COVID-19 UPDATE:
JusticesTown and village justices are elected to four-year terms. Most towns have two judges presiding over the courts. Town justices take turns serving as on-call judges, where they are available to conduct arraignments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. JurisdictionTown and village courts are local courts with original jurisdiction over all criminal and traffic matters arising within their borders. They have jurisdiction over civil matters up to $3,000. Case TypesTown courts deal with the following types of cases:
