Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator - Type A Plant:

The Town of Webster is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. This is a supervisory and technical position responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a Type A Wastewater Treatment Plant with facilities for activated sludge process (including all modifications).

Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus
- Possession of a valid New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA) Grade A Wastewater Collection Operator Certification issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Civil Service Title: Deputy Commissioner of Public Works


Competitive- Provisional Appointment
Job Location: Department of Public Works, 1000 Ridge Road
Salary Grade: $60,000-$70,000/year
Hours of Work: 40-hour work week, Monday – Friday


Administrative professional position working under the direction of the Commissioner of Public Works to
manage duties and responsibilities within the Department of Public Works for the Town of Webster. The
primary responsibilities of this position are to supervise the receipt and processing of matters before the
Town of Webster Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Conservation Board.

Proposed Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Technology, Civil Engineering, Land Use Planning and Management, or Land
and Energy Management, or a closely related field; OR, 
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an
Associate’s degree in Civil Technology, Civil Engineering, Land Use Planning and Management, or Land
and Energy Management, or a closely related field plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time
equivalent experience in the installation, maintenance, repair and cleaning of highway, sewer and water
system components; snow and ice removal; and building and grounds maintenance activities, one (1) year
of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR,
(C) Four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in the installation, maintenance,
repair and cleaning of highway, sewer and water system components; snow and ice removal; and building
and grounds maintenance activities, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR,
(D) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C)
above. 


Preferred Qualifications:
Two years’ experience working with comprehensive studies, engineer reports; reviewing construction
plans; surveying; interpreting regulatory requirements; administering letters of credit; or similar
experience.
