Whiting Road Nature Preserve

The Whiting Road Nature Preserve consists of approximately 240 acres of land purchased by the Town of Webster under the open space referendum. This property has a variety of ecosystems which make it a beautiful area to enjoy nature. The Whiting Road Nature Preserve Planning Committee was formed "To develop a master plan for the Whiting Road Nature Preserve which will facilitate public access for shared use of low-impact activities, while preserving the natural character of the property including bird, wildlife and fauna habitats." Their recommendations resulted in the Town Board approving that access to the property should be restricted to non-motorized, designated multi-use trails for bird watching, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, dog walking on leash, trail walking, horse riding and biking and that the following non-appropriate activities should be prohibited: hunting (except when specifically approved by the Town Board), trapping, fires, motorized vehicles, camping and athletic fields.

Norma Platt did a study to document the plants, birds and butterflies occurring in a 3600 sqft area in the south field. View the results.

The Friends of Webster Trails have now built four miles of trails in the preserve to provide public access. The trailhead parking lot is located on the west side of Whiting Road, 1.1 mile north of Klem Road and 0.6 mile south of Lake Road.
