Fire Safety
Fire protection for the Town and Village of Webster is provided by two Fire Districts: [three volunteer fire departments (V.F.D's.): North East Joint Fire District located in the Village]. The North East Joint Fire District provides fire and rescue services to the East side of the Town, including the Village and is provided with manpower by the Webster Volunteer Fireman’s Association Inc. and the Union Hill Volunteer Fireman’s Association. The West Webster Fire District provides fire and rescue services to the West side of the Town and is provided with manpower by the West Webster Fireman’s Association. [West Webster V.F.D. located at Gravel Road near Old Ridge Road in West Webster; and Union Hill V.F.D. located near the border of the Towns of Webster and Ontario.] Any of these fire departments may be reached by calling 9-1-1.
The Town of Webster Fire Marshal issues permits for certain activities and operations which contain potential for fire hazards. Fire Prevention Permits are required for uses involving chemicals, compressed gases, explosives and fireworks, flammable or combustible liquid handling and storage, the installation of woodstoves and certain natural gas appliances as well as other matters involving fire safety.
The Webster Fire Marshal is responsible for investigating the cause, origin and circumstances of a fire. An investigation is done when a fire is suspicious in nature or involves loss of life or injury to persons, or when property has been damaged or destroyed.
The Fire Marshal administers and enforces regulations applying to fire safety in commercial and public buildings through periodic inspections, and approves the location of fire hydrants and fire lanes in the Town and Village of Webster.
