Below you will find information that might help you understand how to find things or learn about information you might need to know about your city or town.

  • Flags mark the underground utilities located within the Town's right-of-way (ROW). Before anyone digs in NY, they must call 811 (UDIG.NY). If you see these flags and would like to know who plans on digging, dial 811, then press 3 if you are the Homeowner, then press 2 indicating that you want to know why those flags were placed.

    The Town's right-of-way is usually 10-20 feet of the resident's front yard and driveway that abuts the road. Several utilities can be installing or repairing infrastructure within the Town's right-of-way. Any disturbance to residents' yards will be remedied by the utility company performing the work.

    What do the colors represent?

    White: Proposed excavation

    Red: Electric

    Blue: Potable water

    Yellow: Gas, oil, steam, or petroleum

    Pink: Temporary surveying 

    Green: Sanitary Sewer

    Orange: Communication systems

    Purple: Reclaimed water, irrigation

  • For all upcoming work being done in town related to roadwork (paving, chip sealing), and utility work (internet, water, sewer, etc.), please visit the Highway Department Current Projects page.

  • The Town will replace mailboxes damaged during snow operations. Please complete our online form to report.

  • The Town of Webster does not provide this service. Exceptions are determined by Town and/or County officials and may include wind sheer, microburst, and ice storms.  Residents can check with their waste hauler to see if they can accommodate their needs. If not, they will have to make arrangements with a private contractor.

  • If you are digging or excavating anywhere for anything in the ROW (right of way), you need a 149 permit from the Highway Department.  

    Driveways: All driveway modifications require a permit whether you are just resurfacing or altering its original construction.

  • Yes, when they fall within the Town right-of-way. Call the Highway Department at 585-872-1443 with the type of animal and location.

  • Most neighborhood ponds fall under the jurisdiction of the Town. The Town's responsibility is solely functionality of the pond. Aesthetics is not the Town's responsibility. The ponds are the Town's flood control mechanism.

  • The only time the Town remedies erosion damage is when it is an imminent threat to our roadways or utilities.

  • Periodically the Town conducts this operation for longevity and maintenance of the roads as well as the safe passage by larger vehicles on the roadways.

  • Yes, Christmas trees may be dropped at the Highway Department any time between December 26 and February 28.
